Sky search and public names

Your browser downloads the site's star catalogue. Matches for catalogue stars, Chinese asterisms and constellations are found locally in the browser.

To include publicly registered star names, searches also send the query text to StellarEpic's public registry service at api.stellarepic.com/api/registry/search. The query is included in the request URL, and the service returns matching public entries. These requests do not include your location, device direction or language preference.

为了同时查找公开登记的星名，搜索也会把查询文字发送至星辰史诗的公开登记服务api.stellarepic.com/api/registry/search。

Optional location and compass access

When you choose a location or compass feature, the page requests the corresponding browser permission where required and supported. Location and direction readings are used only in your browser to help find stars from your position and the direction your device is pointing. The website does not upload these readings.

You can decline these permissions. If access is denied or your browser does not support the feature, you can still drag, zoom and search the sky manually.

Language preference

Your English or Chinese preference is saved in your browser's local storage understellarepic-language. The website does not send this preference to its server. Clearing the site's browser data removes the saved choice.
